With the DonauTower, VR Bank Bayern Mitte in Ingolstadt has created a striking landmark – and made a statement about the future of work. Modern office and consulting spaces have been created on 13 floors, combining clarity, orientation, and acoustic tranquility with a high degree of flexibility.
The guiding principle of interior designer Holger Odorfer and his team (roomarts, Ingolstadt) was to develop a working environment that is sustainable in the long term and can be adapted to different needs without costly renovations. "We plan in such a way that at least 90% of users can work well without subsequent renovations. We achieve this through standardized room modules, a consistent planning grid, and clearly defined zones – from focus to collaboration." The grid, furnishings, and media technology were designed so that team sizes, floor plans, and meeting formats can be flexibly adapted – from concentrated individual work to hybrid workshops.
A particular challenge in the planning process was developing uniform standards for the entire organization. To this end, roomarts analyzed working methods and departmental structures and defined new room modules and solutions for optimizing room acoustics.
In terms of design, the concept is based on the motto “function drives design”: minimalist, durable materials, clean lines, and acoustically effective surfaces. The colors and textures of the surfaces were chosen to be understated so that the rooms remain flexible for long-term use.
A central element of the furnishings are the WINEA STARTUP 2.0 desks – with white tops and striking volcanic black edges. This detail adds a clear accent to the offices and echoes the calm design language of the architecture. Round conference tables and WINEA FLOW MEET folding tables are added as solutions for workshops and team meetings. Various storage systems with plant stands provide space for order and structure and create a pleasant atmosphere. The furniture blends into the room structure, can be rearranged in various ways, and thus supports the desired adaptability and flexibility of the rooms.
"WINI prevailed in the relevant lots with a modular, ergonomic, and durable system offering—both technically and economically. The decisive factors were system logic, variety of options, service, and harmonious integration into the planning grid."
Employees are enthusiastic about the new working environment – they particularly appreciate the acoustic quality and clarity of the zones. Thanks to sample areas, test installations and workshops, requests could be taken into account at an early stage, which further increased acceptance.
A particular highlight for Holger Odorfer and his team is the sky lounge on the top floor: "It shows how value, tranquillity and views come together. The Skylounge thus becomes an identity-forming meeting place for VR Bank Bayern Mitte."
The Donau Tower is more than just a new office building – it is an example of a successful working environment that embraces the future, provides orientation and puts employees at the centre. WINI furniture makes an important contribution to this – thanks to its modular system design and flexible application.
