Even the small steps count:
WINI uses cork for the branding of its furniture

Sustainable furniture production requires the continuous questioning and optimization of existing processes. The goals of our corporate strategy are the use of recyclable materials, the responsible use of resources and the longest possible product life cycle for our furniture. A small detail that makes this attitude tangible: we have decided to change the logo on our furniture from a plastic sticker to a label made from the renewable, recyclable material cork.

"Even if the replacement of the WINI brand on our products is a relatively small measure to save plastics, it is a significant expression of our sustainability strategy."

Leiter Marketing und Kommunikation, WINI Büromöbel
Less plastic

Plastics, which are mostly produced with fossil raw materials, only decompose after 400 to 1,000 years (some types are not degradable at all), they can release carcinogenic substances and their production and costly recycling release toxic gases that are harmful to the environment and health.

Plastic pollutes our waters and endangers Flora and fauna. When developing our furniture, we try to avoid the use of new plastics altogether or gradually replace the corresponding components with recycled materials - for example, post-consumer plastic.

Cork as a sustainable raw material

Cork is a natural, renewable raw material that is obtained from the bark of the cork oak. The tree is not felled during harvesting, but peeled with an axe by specialized experts. The cork oak then undergoes a unique process of self-regeneration - the cork grows back.

Peeling can be repeated every 9 to 12 years Without damaging the tree. Oak has an average lifespan of Round 200 years and binds CO₂ as it grows.

Cork as a material offers further ecological advantages:
  • Biodegradability: cork decomposes naturally and leaves no harmful residues in the environment.
  • Recyclability: Cork products can be recycled and used in new applications.
  • Circular economy: After use, cork products can be returned to the biological material cycle.
  • Short transportation routes: With Portugal and Spain, cork's main cultivation area is in Europe
  • Promotion of biodiversity: Cork forests provide an important habitat for animals, such as the highly endangered bobcat.
