Office zones + functional areas

THE MY OFFICE PRINCIPLE provides you with a modular unit assembly system for many-sided planning options: WINI defines in total five office zones and 16 subordinate functional areas as fundamental for contemporary office landscapes:

there are ‘personally allocated workplaces’ for single or team work, ‘temporarily allocated workplaces’ for desk-sharing, temp and project work, ‘communication zones’ like reception, the waiting area and lounge, conference and training facilities, the cafeteria and meeting points; there are also ‘places of retreat’ for concentration, quiet and relaxation, or the media support island; and, finally, the ‘service areas’ like the office equipment pool, archives or areas that provide office infrastructure like coat racks, catering and other similar services.

Thus, from the unit assembly system of versatile planning possibilities really individualized office landscapes emerge which are holistic, and can be fitted out with the premium quality furniture systems from WINI – as a unified whole.

Personally workplaces

The classic way of looking at work configuration, whereby staff are personally allocated to fixed workplaces and rooms. There is differentiation in the areas used commonly, and solo work, where concentration, representation or confidentiality require separate workplaces. Functional areas of these office zones are:

  Independent work


Independent work is necessary if the work task specifies a separated view of a workplace (e.g. concentration, discretion or for image purposes). Spatial separation can be necessary in this case; but equally, with the appropriate acoustic arrangement, a personally allocated workplace in open plan office structures is conceivable.

  Team work

In modern, innovative companies, team structures have their proper place. Furnishing for team work defines itself through the shared task to be worked on. Within the area being used, the workplaces are personally allocated and adapted to the individual, both functionally and ergonomically.

Temporary workplaces

Optimised zones for alternating users with different work tasks, occupied only for the duration of the work task. No allocation to a single individual. The functional areas of these office zones are:

  Project work

Project work brings specialists together for a limited period of time. Project workplaces are tailor-made for the tasks required of the single members of staff working on the project, and facilitate a rapid and intensive exchange of information. The furnishing concept necessitates a high measure of flexibility.

  Temporary work 

The temporary workplace is the point of contact for staff, partners and visitors whom one encounters from time to time at the company. Plug & work is the maxim: the temporary workplace provides data and/or network access. This is where data are compared, e-mails retrieved, devices charged….

  Desk-sharing

Desk-sharing concepts bank on optimal space efficiency through multiple use. Several workers share a comfortable workplace, preferably with an adjustable working height. Mobile storage units mean being able to store and lock up personal utensils and documents, if necessary.

Communication zones

Drop-in points, optimised for meeting other staff or visitors. Multifunctional areas for information transfer and interdisciplinary communication, combined with catering facilities as an option, internet, intranet or media access. Functional areas of these office zones are:

  Reception

Reception is the visiting card of every company and, at the same time, the starting point for external and internal orientation systems. The reception workplace represents, and, as a fully-fledged workplace, is increasingly taking over communicative and organizational functions such as the allocation of rooms, the issue of equipment or the provision of information.

  Waiting area and lounge

The lounge is the ideal place for short waiting times in a pleasant atmosphere, or an informal chat away from the workplace. It provides the best pre-conditions for a short break, expert information or simply the interchange with colleagues or guests.

  Conference and training

The conference and training areas combine the most modern communication and presentation technology with opportunities for tête-à-tête conversations. The corresponding furnishing solution creates a prestigious environment and space for a planned group collaboration, plus facilitating the integration of the latest in office technology: from the lectern to the plug-and-work access, the projector or presentation equipment, right up to the video-conferencing system.

  Cafeteria

The cafeteria fulfils a dual purpose: a place for animated conversation and looking after the culinary needs of staff and guests. The focus is on its informal character that fosters communication. Private and business topics blend into mutual dialogue.

  Meeting point

In modern work landscapes, furnished meeting points offer the chance to communicate across all the different departments. Beyond department boundaries, meeting points make regular interchange possible: enjoying a coffee standing at a bistro table, exchanging opinions, networking, evolving new ideas and finding solutions…

Places of retreat

Optically and acoustically shielded areas for intentional retreat. Antithesis to the communicative crowd. Focusing on certain tasks, deliberately separated from everything which could be disruptive. Functional areas of these office zones are:

  Concentration and quiet

Within open communication zones, visually separate and acoustically treated concentration and quiet zones offer an attractive solution for focused, concentrated individual work or a confidential conversation.

  Relaxation

Relaxation areas make it possible for staff to leave the hubbub behind and down tools - for effective regeneration breaks. They are acoustically and visually shielded, and fitted out with products, materials and colours that enhance the relaxation process.

  Media support island

The media support island is the place for the centralized supply of media relevant for daily work. Printed specialist literature is to be found here, but equally digital information on the internal network, or internet access. In this way, the media support island provides staff with the best place of retreat for research.

Service areas

Supporting functions for day-to-day work: providing office equipment and archive sections, lockers, coat racks and post distribution – centrally located, and technically and acoustically optimized. Functional areas of these office zones are:

  Office equipment pool

The office equipment pool supplies what is technically necessary as office features, like fax, copier and printer – in a central position, for common use. It integrates cable management and also ventilation, plus being visually and acoustically screened off from the other office areas.

  Archives

Central archives offer a space-efficient possibility of keeping relevant documents available that are no longer being accessed on a daily basis. At the same time, the storage space for files, folders and collections of files available here reduces the demand for storage space in the office areas used daily.

  Infrastructure

The infrastructure encompasses all the furnishing elements that are the functional supplements to the working world and arise from the company’s own needs: office kitchens, coat racks, lockers, info-points, and guide systems, among many more.
