The illumination of workplaces has more far-reaching effects than many people think. After millions of years of human development in the inherent day/night rhythm, we are completely ‘light-controlled’. Light regulates the circadian rhythm, the human performance curve spanning the whole day. The intensity and colour of light have a direct effect on human performance, speed of reaction, power of concentration and frequency of errors. For this reason, workplace lighting always has a direct influence on the quality of work results, too.
Light and workplace in harmony
Light at the work desk should always be adjustable to the individual needs and tasks of its user. As a consequence WINI suggests lights featuring a dimmer for perfect personal adjustment. Besides providing optimal light in the user’s active work zone they should also allow for a complete illumination of the reflecting ceiling areas to ensure an adequate lighting. This reduces eyestrain which can be caused by the permanent adaption of the eyes to the difference in contrast of dark and light areas. Ergonomic sit-stand desks therefore need special consideration: for an optimal lighting of the work desk – regardless of the adjusted desk height – desk lights with integrated sensors are used, adjusting the light intensity automatically when the desk height is changed.
Light as part of the work place
In a flexible working environment lighting should always be devised as a part of the workplace. An ideal solution are floor lamps in the direct vicinity of the work desk. If the office area is restructured the lamps just march along with the desks. WINI takes the combination of lamps and desks into consideration in many ways: when lamps are placed beside the desk, cut-outs in the desk’s legs can be used to slide flat lamp bases underneath. Additionally WINI offers adapters for lighting products of various manufacturers. They allow easy attachment, e.g. in the function rail of the desktop. WINI’s own construction team is always looking for the best possible integration of good lighting.
